Prof. Richard Caddell PhD, LLM, LLB was appointed to a Lectureship in Law at Swansea University in September 2007, having previously been a Lecturer at University of Wales, Bangor (2004-07) and having taught at Cardiff Law School and also in Tallinn, Estonia. He studied Law at Cardiff University, gaining an LL.B. in Law and Spanish (1999), an LL.M. in Commercial Law (2001) awarded with Distinction, both overall and also for the thesis, and a PhD (2010). His PhD thesis addressed the regulation of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) under international law. Prof. Caddell's main areas of expertise encompass the law of the sea, international environmental law and international and EC marine and biodiversity law. He has been engaged as a legal consultant for a number of intergovernmental treaty bodies, national administrations and leading NGOs on a variety of legal issues relating to fisheries, marine mammal conservation and maritime governance.
